The prevalence of social media in a consumers day-to-day life is encouraging the fashion industry take advantage of new online marketing strategies.

These days almost everyone, from your boss to your grandma, can be found on some form of social media. Literally billions of users worldwide use various social media platforms to connect with long lost high school friends, stalk an ex-significant other when they change their status to “In a relationship,” and post photos of a fresh-out-of-the-oven, made-from-scratch, gluten free pie that is quite clearly store bought. And while it is great fun (and fairly embarrassing) when Grandma posts that blurry photo of three-year-old you running naked through the sprinklers, social media has become so much more than a just a form of status updates and memory sharing.
With nearly 3.5 billion social media users around the world, companies are quickly realizing just how important it is to utilize various platforms for branding, marketing, and selling (Chaffey, 2019). Anymore, it is rare to find a successful company, brand, or product that doesn’t have its own Instagram account or Facebook page. One industry to take advantage of social media is the fashion industry. Thousands of companies and brands have adapted to the effect social media has had on consumers. In fact, the entire industry has changed the way they communicate with consumers, promote and sell brands and products, and create and design articles of clothing. This website explores just what kind of impact social media has had, and how the fashion industry has changed because of it.
