More than ever, shoppers are being influenced by who and what they see online. This has encouraged a drastic increase in online shopping. Take a look at these statistics from research specialist Andrew Zangre:


1). E-commerce sales made up around 10 percent of total U.S. retail sales in the third quarter of 2018.


2). 58 percent of American adults have purchased clothing or shoes online.


3). 69 percent of Americans say they’ve purchased an item online.


4). In 75 percent of e-commerce website visits, the customer leaves without buying anything.


5). 56 percent of online shoppers say the availability of recommendations on an online retailer’s site is influential in their decision whether to shop online.


6). 78 percent of online shoppers value the availability of product reviews by other shoppers.


7). 40 percent of business owners are using social media in general to generate sales.


8). 41 percent of brands on Instagram have used the shoppable posts feature.


9). 23 percent of consumers say that recommendations on social media influence their buying decisions.


10). 87 percent of e-commerce shoppers believe social media plays a vital role in their shopping decisions.


In ten short statistics, you can see just how much the presence of the internet has changed how people fill their closets. You can see in the statistics, particularly in 7-10, that retailers are learning to adapt to online shopping by making it easier, and by using the various tools available through social media to gain and attract customers.
